Alaska State Troopers on Tuesday identified the hunter who
drowned Saturday in a boating accident on the Yukon River. Alvin Haynes, 64, of
Eagle River and hunting companion Bradley Olson, 38, were in a small boat 60
miles north of Ruby when it became stuck on a sandbar and overturned. Olson told
troopers the pair spent some time in the water trying to flip the boat back over
before giving up and heading to shore. While going to shore, Haynes became stuck
in a hole and died before Olson could reach him, troopers said. The body was
found by local searchers Monday evening about 150 feet downstream from where he
went under, according to troopers.
