Richard Nordmark, 20, of 2205 Boniface Parkway, fell to his death from the south wall of Thunderbird Falls at mile 25 on the Glenn Highway. Nordmark was scaling the falls about 8:45 p.m. with two friends when the accident occurred.
A trooper spokesman said that Nordmark was about 15 feet lower than the others when one of them apparently dislodged a rock, which struck Nordmark in the head.
Nordmark fell 80 to 90 feet and landed on his back. A bystander and an off-duty City Police patrolman tried to revive the victim with mouth to mouth resuscitation and external heart massage, but with no results, the spokesman said.
Nordmark, who had lived in
Anchorage for seven months, is survived by his wife, Kathleen. Other
survivors include his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Gilbert Nordmark; brothers Keith and
Kirk; and sisters Kimberly and Lynda, all of Fairbanks. Funeral
arrangements are pending at Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel
